About The Project
Electric Dread was an original piece written by Ian Moore
In the distant future there is one job, press the button. Six workers try to find meaning in this task as the world outside descends in to total anarchy. Adrian has been assigned as a button pusher and told to push a button at least a few times a day or risk getting fired. Adrian desperately tries to hear out the arguments of the others as to why this job is important. After witnessing the death of all her co-workers she finds out that the buttons are not even hooked up to anything, and because of a "shortage of workers" she gets promoted.
I took on this epic style play as my first lighting design. My idea for this show came about by a huge challenge I was faced with. I had no overhead position and too much backlighting. It was at one of our production meetings where I listened to the Dean of Creative Arts talk about her office being too bright. With that in mind I thought about office construction with windows and bright blinding lights. I used only one source of main front light and the other angles focused on color and textures.
