Stage Management

Everybody by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins is a modern adaptation of Everyman. What makes this play unique is that this is a lottery show where five actors have to learn and prepare to play one of five roles including the lead character of Everybody.

The show was double casted and while I was assigned the blue cast the entire stage management team worked and assisted with both sets of cast. This was my second outdoor production at Southwestern University. At the start of the rehearsal process I was still working on Album and had to balance two projects at once.

Because this was during the COVID-19 pandemic I had to communicate safety protocols throughout the process and oversee its implementation backstage during the performance and work with the actors virtually during rehearsals.

What makes this show unique to manage was that this actors fulfill different roles in a lottery. When giving line notes and stage direction we had to be understanding that the actors had to adapt on the fly, but as the ASM It was my job to make sure that the crew knew who was playing what to prepare quick changes, projections had the right set of slides, and the mic technicians knew which of their mic cues they were using each night.

Assistant Stage Manager

Andy & Me was an original piece written by Stu Pflaum loosely based on the relationship between Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat.

The play is about a homeless artist named Lex and his random encounter with a white haired man dressed in black name Andy. Lex is working on his painting when he is discovered by Andy and sells his work to an art gallery. Lex becomes addicted to the fame as well as cocaine. After loosing Andy, it is revealed that he might have been Andy Warhol.

There were no production photos of this performance. This production was made possible due to a protest by the theatre students and alumni across all three campuses because of the sudden cancellation of the planned musical. The students came together and filled not only actor roles, but also assistant designer roles in some of the departments.

This was my first project assisting a stage manager. I was responsible for writing down blocking and running lines. During the show I was the deck manager and fly rail operator.
