About The Project

This project took place in Alma Thomas Theatre. I had less than a week to design an abridged version of this comedy. The script called for the time to go from late evening to early morning while also accommodating an accompanist onstage.

The unique layout of the Alma Thomas Theatre made for an interesting effect that was unintended, but highly favored. I used a teal color direct front light and a incandescent top light to evoke a feeling of a late night.

One effect that I had to accomplished was a firecracker effect which was not available in stock. I used two Source Four and layered a palm tree leaves gobo (G362) and a small bubble gobo (R79650) together in one light and made a random firecracker strobe effect that cycled between 20% and 40% intensity which worked with the sound cue to produce this effect.

This project was not without some difficulty. The stage manager became ill during one of our rehearsals, and I had to call the rehearsal at the last moment without the stage manager's prompt book. The team did a great job working with this last minute change. This was my first taste of calling a show that lead me to look at stage managing as a second emphasis.
